The Challenge
In today’s digital age, companies face increasingly sophisticated cyber threats that can compromise sensitive data and disrupt business operations. As a result, safeguarding against cyber attacks and maintaining business continuity is of utmost importance. Watkin Jones PLC, a leading property developer, has invested heavily in modernising its IT and security infrastructure. However, a lack of centralised security monitoring, detection and response still presented a gap in its overall posture.
Watkin Jones PLC recognised that building this function in-house would pose several challenges, including acquiring several security technologies, a lack of expertise and qualified staff, and the overall costs of setting up such a service. The company, therefore, went to the market to find an outsourced 24/7 Managed Detection and Response (MDR) service.
The Approach
After evaluating several security suppliers, Watkin Jones PLC chose Protos Networks as its outsourced SOC partner. We conducted an in-depth review of the company’s cyber security infrastructure and operations. Armed with this critical information, we crafted a bespoke design for our 24/7 Managed Detection and Response service, tailored to address the identified gaps and align with the company’s needs.
Our team implemented a centralised security monitoring solution to ingest log and telemetry data from Watkin Jones’ entire IT, network and cloud infrastructure. The solutions featured asset discovery, cloud intrusion detection, behavioural monitoring, security intelligence and event management (SIEM) and security compliance reporting. Our SOC was also able to fully integrate with the organisation’s existing Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) solution, allowing us to carry out swift remediation actions against endpoint threats.
Our service also featured the integration of cyber threat intelligence from a range of external sources and our own in-house cyber threat intelligence function. Our team also worked with Watkin Jones’ IT staff to draft incident response plans and a range of SOC playbooks. As an added value to our SOC service, our Cyber Essentials consultants also supported the organisation in achieving Cyber Essentials Plus certification.
The Results
By partnering with Protos Networks and leveraging our 24/7 managed SOC services, the company overcame key cyber security challenges, gaining access to expert analysts, advanced threat detection tools, continuous monitoring and incident response services.
This partnership empowered Watkin Jones PLC to focus on its core business while entrusting its cyber security to a reliable and capable managed security services provider. As cyber threats evolve, the collaboration with Protos Networks ensures that Watkin Jones PLC remains resilient and proactive in safeguarding its digital assets.
