SD-WAN

What is SD-WAN?

Software defined wide area networking (SD-WAN) is a virtual network architecture which enables organisations to securely connect users to applications – whilst achieving transport independence across leased line, 4G/5G LTE, broadband and other types of connection.

SD-WAN securely and intelligently directs traffic across the WAN from a primary control centre by leveraging load balancing capabilities, intelligent VPN and routing technologies. For your organisation, this means an efficient use of bandwidth, reliable connectivity across all applications and increased network performance – not to mention a significant reduction in IT overheads.

Why choose SD-WAN?

Until recently, WAN management has largely relied on dedicated MPLS circuits to provide network security and connectivity. However, the shift to hybrid working and the adoption of cloud services requires more flexible solutions.

The key benefits of a dynamic, cost-effective alternative such as SD-WAN include simplified cloud-based management, improved performance across network and applications, the ability to integrate with existing network infrastructure and third-party APIs, increased agility and lower operating costs.

User experience and connectivity

Sustained high levels of availability and a predictable service are paramount for business-critical applications. SD-WAN technology leverages intelligent path control by setting thresholds on bandwidth, packet loss, latency and jitter. Likewise, policy-based routing allows administrators to assign traffic paths based on the source, destination or type of application.

This ensures a reliable, high-quality service across all platforms including video, voice and virtual desktops – plus SaaS applications such as Microsoft Office 365, Webex and Salesforce.

SD WAN and SASE

SD-WAN is a key element in any secure access service edge (SASE) strategy. Find out how your organisation can implement a SASE architecture.

Secure Access Service Edge

Simpler WAN management

Our SD-WAN solutions utilise a central, cloud-based dashboard this dashboard provides unparalleled visibility across your WAN, along with key network services such as WAN optimisation, cloud security, firewalling, intrusion prevention and network analytics.

It also offers other core benefits such as transport independence, application quality of service (QoS) categorisation, endpoint flexibility and real-time information for failure correlation, cross-customer benchmarking and application performance scores.

Enhanced network security

Traditional WAN security will mainly focus on a single internet egress point and the security appliances at the network edge, usually in a customer or provider data centre. However, modern SD-WAN solutions mean that users will breakout to the internet from their branch or home location.

To meet this requirement, our SD-WAN solutions include advanced threat protection features such as intrusion prevention and detection services (IPS/IDS), Secure Web Gateway (SWG) and Advanced Malware Protection (AMP).
